Introduction

Anthropology is the study of the human animal.

Major Subdisciplines

Biological/Physical Anthropology — the study of the human body.

Cultural Anthropology — the study of ethology with regard to human populations.

Archaeology — the study of human artefacts.

Linguistics — the study of language, which thus far has only been conclusively demonstrated in humans.

Physical Anthropology

Forensic Anthroplogy

Palæoanthroplogy

Primatology? — some anthropology textbooks list primatology as a subdiscipline within anthropology, and often as a subdiscipline within physical anthropology. This is an odd choice, since humans are a type of primate, suggesting anthropology be a subdiscipline of primatology rather than the other way around. However, it may be the common perception that the reason to study primates is to learn more about human evolution, thus justifying this disgustingly anthropocentric classification. Because we here at Genesis Panthesis despise anthropocentrism in all its forms, we do not uphold this classification but instead regard primatology as the discipline which subsumes anthropology in the same way that zoology subsumes mammalogy.
