Astrotolerant Organisms
Introduction
Astrotolerant prokaryotes are defined here as prokaryotes with one or more specific “astrotolerances”, or adaptations/exaptations to enduring interplanetary conditions, such as low temperature, low pressure, high radiation, extreme drouth, and (because interplanetary transit involves vast distances) time. Therefore, included in this category are cryophiles, hypobarophiles, radiotolerant organisms, xerophiles, and chronotolerant organisms. These are in contrast to hypergeophiles, or creatures adapted for surviving planetary extremes.

Taxonomic/Phylogenetic Overview of Astrotolerant Genera
“Astrotolerant genera” refers here to genera known to include species with astrotolerances.
Genera containing cryophilic and cryotolerant organisms are marked with an asterisk (*)
Genera containing radiophilic and radioresistant organisms are marked with a dagger (†)
Genera containing hypobarophilic and hypobarotolerant organisms are marked with two asterisks (**)
Genera containing xerophilic and xerotolerant organisms are marked with two daggers (††)
Genera containing chronotolerant organisms are marked with a double dagger (‡)
